No Kill Advocates Toolkit

Shelter killing is a heartbreaking and unnecessary tragedy that plagues our nation's animal shelters. Despite the fact that there are over seven times as many people looking to adopt animals as there are animals being killed in shelters due to a lack of homes, these innocent creatures are still being needlessly euthanized at an alarming rate. It's a shocking reality that we cannot ignore.

As animal lovers, we are often told that shelters and their staff are all on the same side, that we all want the same thing, and that no one wants to kill. But the facts speak for themselves. Almost half of all animals who enter our nation's shelters are killed, often in garbage bags, instead of finding loving homes. And when we question these practices, we are met with defensiveness and excuses rather than action.

It's time for us to take a stand and demand change. We cannot fix a problem that we refuse to acknowledge exists. Shelters must be held accountable to the highest standards and benchmarks in the nation, and we must push for reform to end the needless killing of healthy dogs and cats.

As a compassionate and caring community, we can make a difference. By educating ourselves and advocating for change, we can help ensure that every animal has the chance to find a loving forever home. Let's work together to end shelter killing once and for all.

Bust the Idea that Killing is Cheap.

Money makes lifesaving easier, but there is no correlation between lifesaving and funding.  The good news is No Kill can often lead to more avaialble resources because people want to help you save pets, not kill them.
